OK, so it is hard to imagine any scenario where the environment would be a factor in Charlie Strong’s possible decision on whether to move to Hook ‘em-Horns country at the University of Texas, or stay with the Cardinals at the University of Louisville.

Unless you count a bigger, richer fan base, a larger stage and getting to hobnob with former presidential canditate, the EPA-bashing Rick Perry as environmental attributes.

But it if green matters (and I’m not talking cash, because the coach already has a bundle of that from U of L)  to the successful football coach, the Cards would actually be winning out.

Just for fun, let’s take a look:

University of Louisville scored 54th on the latest Sierra Club Cool Schools ranking. University of Texas at Austin wasn’t even on the list, which ranked 145 colleges and universities.

U of L recently was placed in the silver category for most bicycle friendly campuses; University of Texas was one level down — bronze. In fact, Louisville has been ranked by Bicycling Magazine as one of nine great bicycling campuses.

To be fair, both schools have a silver rating from the (and this is a mouthful) Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.

Both are also have secured Tree Campus USA status.

Neither made the latest Princeton Review’s green college honor roll, however, but both have been featured in the guide.

OK, so there’s some good green to go around for both schools.

But the win goes to University of Louisville. After all, Kentucky’s governor, Steve Beshear, does not deny global warming, even as he fights for coal, while Perry has said global warming is a hoax.

And while Kentucky has led the nation in coal burning waste production in the past, Texas now comes in first in that category. Kentucky is No. 2!

Yet.. Kentucky, with all its rain and rivers, just looks greener, too, compared to sun-baked Texas.

How can a football coach turn his back on all of that?
